However, Biochemistry has been available in Nigeria for sometime now while medical Biochemistry is still new and trying to gain a solid ground in the country, therefore not all Universities offer Medical Biochemistry in Nigeria.

In most universities in Nigeria, Medical Biochemistry is being classified under the faculty of life sciences while in others like Uniben, it is under the School of Basic Medical Studies.

For the first year of studying Medical Biochemistry – you would be taught basic general courses just like every other department in your faculty. This is kind of a little advancement from what you were were taught in secondary school and it includes

  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • General studies (which could include history, philosophy among others)
  • Some Universities like Uniben also add math to the syllabus.

For the second year of studying Medical Biochemistry – you would be taught basic Medical courses like

For the third and final year – you are taken through series of strict Medical Biochemistry courses as well as practicals.
